Legend has it that Charlie Fey made his first machine, a color wheel slot ,in his apartment in 1894. A year later he built the 4-11-44 (left) He made a few of these, placed them on location, Launching his slot machine career. Fey did so well with this new venture that he decided to go in the business full time, opening a factory in San Francisco. |
In his first factory Fey built many different types of machines like the 1897 KLONDIKE (left), but most of his early machines were poker machines like the DUKE center. The ideal machine at that time was a poker machine that could dispense payouts automatically. As it was not mechanically feasible with 5 reels ,Charlie used 3 reels on his original Bell machines. |
